Blog Launch Checklist – Skyrocket your brand-new blog better

Blog Launch checklist is what you need to start your brand new blog.

Blogging can give you freedom and flexibility in your life. But you have to treat it like your start-up business. Imagine when you are going to start a business, and how many things you have to take into consideration from planning to budgeting to launching.

Yes, Starting your blog launch is easy in some ways. But if you are a serious blogger don’t take it the easy way. There are many things you have to do and take care of before the blog launch. Blogging is not rocket science. It is not instant gratification. It takes your time, effort, patience, determination, commitment, and a can-do and will-do attitude.

That’s why you have to be prepared from day one when you are going to bang your blog launch. You should not be overwhelmed, discouraged, and demotivated on the long way of the learning journey.

The first step you should take is to start your blog launch. There is a Chinese saying “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” So, looking for perfection and procrastinating in your blog launch will be your biggest mistake. Just go through this step-by-step checklist and bang your blog launch process so that your blog can skyrocket.

Get Brainstorming

Is blogging for you?

Are you going to start a blog just to convey your message as a hobby?

Or you are going to start it for some serious money as a business?

If you are going to start blogging as a hobby then it’s up to you how you present your blog.  If you are serious about your new blog and treat it like a business then you have to take it seriously, think about it, and work on it as a business.

You see, blogging is not piece of cake that you are going to get easier. It is a long-term game or process. If you are looking for instant gratification then blogging is not for you.

Successful blogging requires dedication, determination, patience, commitment, and a can-do attitude.  According to the study, it takes 6-12 months at least, to get some results from your new blog launch.  It’s a long way of learning and going process and unless you are determined to do it, you will be overwhelmed soon enough. You would want to quit. When you are not truly passionate about what you are stating, it won’t be sustainable too.

Yes, it is true that blogging is a flexible job. You can be your own boss with the lucrative blogging business. You can keep learning and growing your business. It is one of the easiest and best ways to make money online seriously.

But you have to accept the fact too that not everyone succeeds in this business. You will need some technical knowledge to move forward your business. It takes long hours of work and you have to do it being lonely in this business. Blogging is a slow burner i.e.; you will see your progress very slowly as it is a long-term game.

In this way, when you are going to make it happen your blog launch, you have to brainstorm about it first- is it right for you? Or can you, do it? or are you committed and determined that much so that you can go learn and grow your blogging business?

With that note, here come the next three steps simultaneously.

Know your why

Blog Launch Checklist Mark

Your why is the foundation of your blog. Unless you have a strong WHY, something intangible, a motivational factor that will push you through, you will quit sooner than later. When you don’t enjoy what you do, you will start to feel burned out soon enough and potentially waste hundreds of hours.

Excitedly starting your blog and banging your blog launch is a good thing. But going along with the blogging journey without feeling it’s all for nothing and quitting is very difficult. That time, your strong why if you have known already will give you strength to continue.

“I want to be a successful blogger” or “I want to make money” aren’t your why because you have started your blog as a business after brainstorming. Without being successful there is no meaning in blogging that you have started. Therefore, these are the only achievement you wish to achieve. You can’t put them as reasons Why you are starting your blog or why you have become interested in blogging in the first place.

Making money is the perfectly OK goal to have in blogging but again comes Why do you need to make money? Thus, you have to think and know your real why. For me, the WHY is “to teach enthusiastic people a freedom lifestyle through digital marketing especially blogging and affiliate marketing”

You also have to have a strong and push-able WHY:

  • Establish an Online Brand, become an expert in your Niche
  • Spend more time with your family after getting Money & Freedom
  • Help your readers solve their problems
  • Become an author in the future
  • Be your own Boss and completely independent
  • Become an authoritative Niche expert by educating others and gaining more exposure
  • To build a strong online portfolio for digital marketing and freelancing

Likewise, you need to find and know your WHY. So that you can continuously go along with your blogging journey without any guilt, without quitting thought in the middle, and make your blogging business successful. After finding your WHY, there is the next step you should take together with this step. That is:

Setting your Clear Goal

Like your WHY, your clear Goal is another motivational factor that helps you keep going. It is too beginning step you should take before your blog launch and to define your purpose of blogging.

Setting goals help you focus your time and energy on what’s most important because goals help you create schedules. Schedules help you become disciplined and disciplines help you to reach your goals.

You should set both long-term and short-term goals for your blogging success. Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. These are the factors of goals you should include while defining your blogging goals. These will help you motivate the blogging journey because these all help you give the progress report of your blog.

When you are going to start your brand new blog launch, there are lots of pieces (like learning new tools, writing your blog posts, and connecting with your readers) you should manage to get the blogging puzzle solved. You may lose sight of your big goals, your vision, and the mission of blogging because of your daily work. For this reason, you should break down your goal into smaller milestones from the beginning.

Your smaller goals should be measurable and achievable too so that you can track your progress. Some examples of smaller goals are:

  • Get 1000 email subscribers in 8 months
  • Write at least 1 blog post a week
  • Publish one ultimate guide greater than 3500 words
  • Increase blog traffic by 4% every two months
  • Make connections with 2 influencers in three months and feature them on your blog

In this way, by breaking into small milestones, your blogging tasks will be much more enjoyable and rewarding. You will know what you need to do next and when you will reach your next milestone.

Know your What

Checklist Mark

“If you try to catch two rabbits at the same time, you will can none.”

“If you try to appeal to everyone, you will appeal to no one”

These quotes explain why you need to know your WHAT. When you are starting a blog, you can’t write anything and everything that you are interested in or passionate about. You have to know, where are you going as per your Goals, mission, and/or vision as mentioned above.

Know your WHAT means find your thing here. In other words, know your Niche, your blogging topic, and what you are going to write about in your blog.

It is understandable that you have lots of interests and maybe have experience in many things. But knowing your WHAT indicates – you should find your Niche in such a way that it has some differences from others so that you can stand out from the competition. Your niche should not be too broad or too narrow.  When you choose too broad a niche it will be difficult to stand out in the crowd. Similarly, when you pick a niche that is too narrow, you will have a harder time driving traffic to your blog.

Therefore, you have to pick your Niche which is popular enough, big enough to create content, and monetizable, and not forget it should be something you do not hate writing about. In this way, if you find your WHAT carefully, it will help you connect with your audience. It will simplify your blogging business and keep things running smoothly for a long time.

Here is a guide for you on how to find your Profitable niche quickly so that you won’t be confused more about knowing your WHAT.

Know your WHO

Checklist Mark

Finding your Niche or Having your WHAT means you are already ahead of 90% of the bloggers out there. In the same way Knowing your WHO (your ideal customer, your customer avatar) means you are already in the business.

Blogging as a business means your ultimate goal is selling. Sometimes you sell actual products and other times you sell your idea. Either way, creating your customer avatar or knowing your WHO for your blog audience will make it easier for you to decide on crucial aspects of your blog. It will help you establish a consistent style and brand.

Your content of the blog for your niche makes you more or less of an authority in your field. You have written your blog posts keeping in mind your ideal customers. In this way, you will attract a certain group of readers that will keep coming back to explore your content. Yes, that certain group is your Ideal customers, your WHO, your community, your tribe.

Your blog’s customer avatar is the key to crafting a successful blogging strategy. Not everyone will be interested in what you are writing. Therefore, after finding your WHAT, it is still important to find and know your WHO within that niche. You can go through this blog post to understand more about your customer avatar and to know your WHO for your blog.

Research your Competition

Blog Launch Checklist Mark

Before start writing your blog posts, you should see more blogs on your niche. Researching your competition is as much as important as researching your niche. It is like 50% of your hard work is over.

You can see that every blogger wants to succeed in their blogging business. Every blogger including you wants high traffic and high lucrative niche that helps you make more money from your blog. It is also true that where there is competition, there is a market and money. But it will be difficult to make your blog profitable in that competition unless you have some angle, differentiation, and uniqueness. You should have specialized in your niche gone deeper and should have gone the extra mile and provided information your competitors don’t.

Researching your competition doesn’t mean that you should copy or clone them. You have to research them for creating your own content as an inspiration. You can research your competitor’s site to look at the points like:

  • Number of articles and blogs already out there
  • Overall quality and frequency of blog post publishing
  • The writing style, type of topics, their strength and weaknesses
  • The way of promotion, blog format, selection of categories
  • Most SEO tools like Moz, SEMrush, and Ahrefs can help you to find keywords, traffic, backlinks, top pages, SEO optimization, and more

Decide your monetization method

Checklist Mark

Everybody wants to make money from blogs unless it is done as a hobby. As you have already learned how is it important to set a clear goal above. Blogging as a business means its main goal is to make a profit from it or you can say to make money from it so that you can make living from your blogging.

Choosing proper monetization options from day one plays an important role in your blogging success. Your monetization strategy may change on the journey but at least you have to have an idea of how you are going to make money with your blog.

Direct ads, affiliate products, sponsored posts, personal products, and email marketing are some ways you can monetize your blog. For more knowledge on how to monetize your blog from day one. You can read this blog post.

Raw Content Structure and action plan preparation

Checklist Mark

Blogging success will happen when you publish your blog content consistently and continuously after your blog launch. Study shows that having at least 24 blog posts can increase traffic to your blog by 30%, and having more than 50 posts can lead to a 77% boost in traffic.

In the same way, based on your seriousness about your blogging business, this is how many posts you need to write before your blog launch.

  • Recreational Bloggers: 5 posts
  • Intermediate Blogger: 10 posts
  • Serious Blogger: 20 posts
  • Career Blogger: 50 posts

That is why you need a raw content structure and action plan in hand. You have already clear goals for blogging, your vision, and your mission. Preparing your action plan and raw content is preparing your categories, sub-categories, pillar contents, 3 blog posts in every category, sufficient blog sample headlines, and if possible editorial calendar or blog workbook. A good structure and clear plan with daily routines and steps to follow will help you keep motivated and reach your long-term goal.

You should always keep your long-term goal in sight, and track them regularly. For that, you should break down it into small and short-term goals. It will help you kick-start your content creation process. A blogging strategy is the one you need and should include in your action plan. The strategy makes it clear how you going to reach your goals. Which direction you should go? Which methodology you should apply in your blogging journey to get success?

Write down your elevator pitch

Checklist Mark

This is the last one you should put a checked mark on before setting up your WordPress blog and before investing in your blog.

The elevator pitch is the way to share your expertise and credentials quickly and effectively with people who don’t know you. This is the way to introduce yourself to positioning in the online space. The elevator pitch includes everything about you and your business. In other words, you should prepare your elevator pitch in a way that includes your micro-niche, designation, mission, goals, and community. Being able to explain your blogging business in just a couple of sentences in a few seconds will help you clarify what your business is about.

Here is an example of an elevator pitch for my digital marketing business.

“Hi, I am Suman Maharjan, a digital marketing mentor and expert. I am the founder of (your community’s name: like blogging success tribe), and I am on a mission to help enthusiastic people to live a free lifestyle through digital marketing, especially through blogging and affiliate marketing.”

Most hosting company gives this certificate for free when you buy the hosting. It’s your duty to make sure that the hosting company you are going to buy has an SSL certificate. Besides adding the extra security layer, this certificate gives you peace of mind. Because all the data transferred between your blog and your readers are encrypted.

Create a custom personalized business email with your domain name

Blog Launch Checklist Mark

To make it professional and to prove that you are a serious blogger, you should create an email address with your domain name. It is far better than using your existing Gmail or iCloud email address for your blogging business.

Sometimes, certain affiliate companies which will be one of your monetization methods, also prefer a domain-specific email address. For example, my custom personalized business email with the domain name mail@sagansuman.com.

You can make your custom personalized business email with your domain name with your hosting company from the C-panel if the email service is provided in your hosting package. Otherwise, you can make it from Google by investing little extra money in your business. Here is a blog post from WP Beginners on how to set up a professional email address with Gmail and G Suite.

Also, custom themes come with a great user experience, fast loading speed, full security, and tech support.

Your free incentive or lead magnet should be something that will help your readers to do something or take actionable steps or to get something valuable. There are lots of lead magnets you can create for your readers. Some examples are – checklists, cheat sheets, workbooks, templates, guides, printables, eBooks, short email courses, etc. In the beginning stage, you just have to create something small and easy to understand with value.

  • Add as an inline form to your blog posts
  • A sidebar is a good place for an opt-in form
  • Can also use in exit popups and intent popups
  • You can use tools like a welcome mat, hello bar, and chatbots
  • In the footer of your website
  • As a slide-in on one or more pages
  • At the end of your about page
